Job description
The Department of Ecoscience (ECOS), Aarhus University, seeks a Senior Researcher for a permanent position to develop and enhance our understanding of the effects of environmental change on the population dynamics and ecology of wildlife. The position will further strengthen and broaden the research and advisory activities of the Department, particularly regarding issues relating to species management, environmental change, land use management, invasive species and resolution of wildlife-societal conflicts.
The candidate will play a central role in establishing the Department’s research strategy for and securing the department’s scientific profile in relation to wildlife research in terrestrial habitats. The candidate will also be expected to contribute to other projects and develop interdisciplinary collaboration within the department, elsewhere at the university and with external partners, nationally and internationally as well as to acquire independent research funding.

Your profile
The successful candidate must have at least a Ph.D. and an established track-record on senior level of relevant publications in high-impact international journals.
The position requires a broad knowledge of the ecology, factors and processes that affect and determine the distribution, abundance, and population dynamics of wildlife species, including environmental change, invasive species, and resolution of human/wildlife conflicts.
The candidate must have a solid theoretical and practical statistical background within the field of applied ecological research, and a broad experience in monitoring methods including experience with, e.g. citizen science, telemetry and spatially explicit datasets to generate scientific research as a basis for the provision of advice.
Applicants must also have professional experience with international and interdisciplinary research and extended success with acquisition of research funding.
Who we are
The Department of Ecoscience is engaged in research programs, teaching curricula and advisory work covering the major biological sub-disciplines. We conduct world-class research
in the areas of aquatic biology and ecology, arctic environment and ecosystems, biodiversity, and conservation biology. The Department currently employs approximately 275 academic and technical staff (PhD students not included). The Department competencies cover a wide spectrum, from the biology of organisms to modelling water and nutrient cycles from land to sea. Focal research areas relevant to this position includes the conservation management of northern European birds and mammals including invasive species, human impact on species and human/wildlife conflicts.
Our activities take place at national and international levels with most research activity taking place throughout Denmark and Northern Europe, including the Arctic. The Department plays a leading role in providing advice to the Danish statutory authorities on a range of environmental issues, particularly the implementation and assessment of international agreements and law, such as those under EU directives. In particular, the Section plays an active scientific advisory role under the Agreement on the Conservation of African-Eurasian Migratory Waterbirds, as well as being deeply involved in the national monitoring program (NOVANA) and engaged in the maintenance and management of the large national environmental databases.

Deadline
Applications must be received no later than Monday August 21st.
Application procedure
Shortlisting is used. This means that after the deadline for applications – and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the assessment committee if necessary, – the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. The selection is made on the basis of an assessment of who of the candidates are most relevant considering the requirements of the advertisement. All applicants will be notified within 6 weeks whether or not their applications have been sent to an expert assessment committee for evaluation. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee and will receive his/her assessment. Once the recruitment process is completed a final letter of rejection is sent to the deselected applicants.

Formalities and salary range
Technical Sciences refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.
The application must be in English and include a curriculum vitae, degree certificate, a complete list of publications, a statement of future research plans and information about research activities, teaching portfolio and verified information on previous teaching experience (if any). Appointment shall be in accordance with the collective labour agreement between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and the Confederation of Professional Associations.
