We are seeking applicants for a 3-year postdoc position in synthetic biology and metabolic engineering to join us at the Department of Biological and Chemical Engineering, Aarhus University, on November 1st 2023 or as soon as thereafter. The project focuses on the construction of CO2-fixation pathways and channeling CO2 into the central carbon metabolism of yeast.
Expected start date and duration of employment
This is a 3–year position from November 1, 2023 or as soon possible.
Job description
The postdoc is expected to contribute to 1) redesigning or implanting natural CO2-fixation pathways, or creating new artificial CO2-fixation route in the yeast; and 2) constructing new biosynthesis machinery, and rewiring or redirecting carbon flux for alkanes synthesis.
The postdoc is expected to develop new methodologies or utilize biological tools to elucidate metabolic network plasticity and evolutionary emergence of biological novelty.
The postdoc will work closely with our international collaborators UC Berkeley and BOKU Vienna.
Your profile
Required Education and Skills:
• Completed PhD in the field of Biochemistry, Biotechnology or relevant field
• Strong background in Metabolic engineering, gene editing and fermentation
• Practical experience in metabolic engineering and culture evolution, preferably in yeast
• Expertise in metabolic (Targeted and/or nontargeted approaches) and chemical analyses (especially NMR, MS and isotopic labelling chemistry)
• Self-motivated, pro-active, team- and goal-oriented personality
• Full command of the English language

Shortlisting is used. This means that after the deadline for applications – and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the appointment committee if necessary, – the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. All applicants will be notified whether or not their applications have been sent to an expert assessment committee for evaluation. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee, and each applicant is given the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that concerns him/her self. Formalities and salary range
Technical Sciences refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.

Appointment shall be in accordance with the collective labour agreement between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and the Confederation of Professional Associations.
