Title:
PhD in Socio-economic foundations for soil health
Research area and project description:
Would you like to be part of an engaged team, that works with the social and political foundations for the green transition of agriculture and food production? We offer an interesting PhD position in a dynamic and multicultural environment, where you have the opportunity to design a dissertation in a close collaboration with researchers, stakeholders and farmers.
The PhD is a part of the European research project SoilValues (Enhancing Soil health through values-based business models and you will join the project team with an exciting international and interdisciplinary research environment and industrial collaborators. We seek a highly motivated PhD student who will explore the governance and organization of agri-food value chains as a basis for improving the delivery of ecosystem services, including carbon sequestration and other relevant dimensions of soil health. SoilValues aims to improve the conditions for developing successful soil health business models in which are land managers are rewarded when making production decisions that result in higher levels of soil-based ecosystem services as well as the non-marketed services they generate. In order for such business models to function, three important conditions need to be fulfilled: (1) the outcomes of SES need to be measured, thus requiring knowledge, indicators and models, (2) the data and information generated by these indicators and models need to be exchanged to facilitate monitoring, reporting and verification (MRV), and (3) all these activities should be governed by an appropriate institutional framework consisting of the necessary legislation, standards and incentive schemes.
You will be employed in the section for agriculture and sustainability, where we through a series of national and international projects investigate the foundations for developing future sustainable food production through targeted regulation, development of sustainable business models as well as a better integration of stakeholders’ perspectives on landscape management. In general, we work with systems analysis based on qualitative and quantitative data, case studies and comparative studies of different initiatives, politics, and strategies across countries in Europe. An important ambition for this work is to advise decision-makers at local, national, and international level about the opportunities and barriers for advancing the green transition through the implementation of new production technologies, regulatory initiatives, and decision-support tools.
For technical reasons, you must upload a project description. Please simply copy the project description above and upload it as a PDF in the application.
