Center for Music in the Brain (MIB), Department of Clinical Medicine, Aarhus University invites applications for a position at the level of Assistant Professor in the field of Neuroscience as per 1 August 2023 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is full-time position and will end on 31 July 2026.
The Danish National Research Foundation’s Center for Music in the Brain (MIB) at Aarhus University and the Royal Academy of Music, Aarhus/Aalborg, Denmark, is an interdisciplinary research center focused on understanding how music is processed in the brain and its relation to brain function. Combining neuroscientific, musicological, and psychological research, MIB explores music perception, action, emotion, and learning, with potential implications for music education and practice. The center's research is based on the predictive coding of music hypothesis and is part of the Danish Neuroscience Center at Health, Aarhus University. MIB has access to cutting-edge technologies and collaborates with clinicians, medical scientists, and patient groups.

Your job responsibilities
As an Assistant Professor in Neuroscience at MIB, your primary responsibility will be research, with a focus on the SEEMS project, "Inducing Self-related Emotional Experience by Modulating the Speaking Voice." This unique project offers a compelling opportunity for candidates interested in sensory and motor integration. It aims to explore the often-overlooked role of our own voice's emotional tone in conveying and perceiving emotions. The project will investigate the mechanisms behind non-verbal emotional vocalizations and the impact of self-perceived acoustic feedback on brain dynamics and mood, shedding light on the intricate relationship between emotional expression and experience. In a broader context, you will contribute to the department's development by conducting high-quality international research and collaborating closely with Danish and international colleagues. The Assistant Professor position is a career development opportunity, where you will receive supervision and pedagogical support.
Your main tasks will consist of:
- Independent research of high international quality, including high-impact publications
- Teaching, project guidance and supervision of Bachelor’s and Master's degree students, as well as possibly supervision of PhD students.
- Some degree of contribution towards attracting external research funding.
You will report to the Director of Center for Music in the Brain.
Your competences
Essential competencies include:
- Completed a PhD in the field of neuroscience, psychology or other relevant education
- Independent research-related qualifications at a high international level
- Experience with neuroimaging techniques (e.g., fMRI, TMS, EEG) and statistical data analysis
- Experience with supervising and teaching Bachelor's, Master's, and potentially PhD students, as well as attracting external research funding
- A research focus on multisensory integration, incorporating knowledge of experience-dependent neuroplasticity, multisensory brain networks, and interoception
- Understanding the brain basis of sensorimotor control, including voice or music production
- Experience conducting perceptual and psychometric testing
- A proven track record of attracting external research funding
Moreover, we expect you to be fluent in oral and written English. International applicants are expected to learn Danish, and Aarhus University arranges Danish teaching.

Terms of employment
- Appointment as an assistant professor requires academic qualifications at PhD level.
- Further information on the appointment procedure can be found in the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Universities.
- The appointment is in accordance with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (Akademikerne).
- Remuneration is in accordance with the above, and the Salary agreement catalogue for staff at Health.
- The yearly base salary for a fulltime assistant professor is between DKK 482.603,31 and DKK 536.927,17 depending on the years of working experience after achieved MSc degree. The base salary includes a position related supplement and pension (17.1 %). Additional supplement(s) for special qualifications can be negotiated. Authorisation supplement(s) will be granted, if relevant for the position. Your local eligible trade union representative at Aarhus University negotiates your salary on your behalf.
- Researchers recruited from abroad are offered a special researcher tax scheme with a lower tax rate.
